Using a different stylesheet for IE...

Okay, I am teaching myself css, and have created <a href="

Now it doesn't show up even remotely correct in IE, so I want to use javascript to switch between two different css files based upon browser. I want to have one name global.css, which applies to every browser except IE, and one name IE.css which only applies to IE. Now I have tried to create a script to do this, but it doesn't work. Hi and welcome to Tek-Tips. Read faq222-2244 first to see how to get the best from these forums.

To get any consistency in appearance its a good idea to supply a full and valid doctype first. Then set your character encoding and have a look at the other validation errors. See

to get a start.

If you just want conditional stuff for IE you could look at

http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/dhtml/overview/browserdetection.asp

which may provide a simpler solution than JS

Well, I have decided just to have one stylesheet. Thanks for your help anyways. I certainly will be using this forum! By the way, do you like what my site looks like?

I see that you haven't yet taken my initial advice - still no doctype, no character encoding, HTML doesn't validate, CSS doesn't validate, huge image sizes (only good for for slow loading ).

Your advice on browser choice may be well intentioned, but it will still annoy a lot of your potential customers

As you are using CSS you shouldn't need to use <center> tags - I notice you're not using much of your CSS yet

I personally find the background image distracting
