I have acquired an old 1003 (IOS Version 11.0) router, and wonder if it is possible to configure the ethernet interface so that it gets an IP address from DHCP (The Cable modem), and serves up IP addresses on a "secondary" configured interface to internal LAN clients. I could then plug it all into a little switch, and not have to use Internet connection sharing, and leave my noisy XP system on all day.

I gather that the IOS Version will not let me use DHCP, so perhaps someone knows how to get it upgraded.

Maybe someone will tell me that this is not a worthwhile cause, and I should go buy a proper router.
