Hi,

this is my first post on this forum, as I have just statred using Crystal Reports 9.

I have a requirement to report on information that is contained in 2 different datasources.
One is sybase and the other is oracle.
I have connections set up for each of them, but I was wondering how I go about retrieving linked information from both of them in the same report???

they both contain two key fields which will link them - but I have no idea how to get started.
any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

Matt

Hi,
Linking tables from different data sources can present problems, especially if the datatypes of the linked fields are 'seen' by Crystal as different..There may never be a match.

Also, no server-side processing can be done (grouping, sorting, etc)

Is there anyway you can integrate the data on one server for reporting purposes?

unfortunately there is no way I can integrate the data.

are you saying that if both databases are Sybase, or Oracle then this may be alot easier?

failing that, how can I retrieve the data as it stands?
I want to specify criteria within Crystal Reports to filter out the results.

Hi If both are the same database types ( either Oracle, Sybase, SqlServer whatever) it is much easier..
Otherwise you could try using one of the datasources as a subreport - it may work out that way..

thanks.

I tried to create a subreport, but for some reason it displays some errors when I try to connect to the oracle one using ODBC (RDO)

I can connet to the Sybase database.
but if I try to connect to the other one I get the following errors:

"Query ngine Error: ............ TNS: Could not resolve service"

"....Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed"

"Logon failed. ......... The driver doesn't support the version of ODBC behaviour that the application requested"

do you have any ideas why?
I can connect to it in MSQuery without problem.

Hi, Try it with the Native Oracle Server connection type, not RDO.

I have but that just says logon failed.

the ODBC driver for that connection comprises of:

Datasource Name
Description
User Name
Server

the Oracle Serve conenction asks for service, userID and password.
I have tried all sorts of combinations but it does not work.
i'll keep trying, but if you can suggest anything else, then please let me know!!

thanks,
Matt

Hi,
The info it is asking for is:

Username ( same as you used in ODBC)
Password same as ODBC

Service is the tnsnames.ora alias for the Oracle instance containing the data you need.

( assumes a correct installation of the Oracle client software)
