Dear Friends,

In Cisco Works LMS 2.0 the User Tracking table is missing hostname, IP address and subnet for all hosts. There is a router involved but CW2000 has no CDP/Snmp community string access to this router. The reason that CW2000 has no access to the router is because the WAN is managed by a third party, which does not allow this access.

Is it possible that the missing data in the User tracking table is caused because of the lack of router access?

If yes, what kind of router access is required? CDP, SNMP read or SNMP read-write.

If the problem is not caused by the lack of the router. How can the problem be solved then?

Would some-body be so kind to help me?

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,

Harry Gorter

Use the utility UTLite.exe.
You can find it in the instaldir\bin
Read the content of utlite.bat

You need access to the Routers ARP Cache, for the MAC to IP address information it contains. This can be accessed with a read only community string from the router. If you have RO access to a router you usally get cdp access as well (if it is a cisco router of course, and the community string is not access limited).

If the RO community is different to the switches on the subnet/lan the you will need to add an entry to the snmp table in CW2K. I am not too sure as to the logic but I always add the loopbaback entry and the LAN entry. Also discovery failed for me on LMS v1-2.0 so I have always added the router LAN interface as a discovery seed, but you may find this unnecessary.

As a check you need to get the Router in the Topology MAP.
Launch Topology services and check the number of routers > 0 in the LAN and that the router is the default gateway.
Then Wait for or start a UT Discovery.
