Set up paging using a shortcode to line 2 analog going to overhead paging. Works like it should but every now and then a user on some very old analog phones will accidentally put the line on hold rather than hanging up the phone. We are wondering if it is a case of banging the receiver and doing a switchhook flash for a second line? Any idea where to look please?

Sounds like auto hold to me. they have the page going and push a button for another line instead of hanging up. you can try disabling auto hold in the system.

You could also set up the short code with a timer to disconnect.
Example: Maximum Call Length

The character t can be used in dialing short codes to set the maximum allowed duration of a call. For example, the following short code will dial a number but then disconnect the call after 20 minutes (plus or minus a minute).

Short Code: 9N

Telephone Number: Nt(20)

It is undoubtedly someone not hanging up the phone properly when hanging up. I have had this happen with a client with single line sets. Either the person doesn't completely hang up the receiver when hanging up so that it thinks it is a flash hook or the person is using their hand to hang-up the receiver instead of replacing the receiver. This was happening in my situation. They would page, press the receiver down with their hand after the page, release the receiver, and then hang-up the handset. It would cause a flash hook to happen.

trying limiting the pulse width on these phones. We will see. Thanks.

Most pages are less than one minute. Setting the max call duration to two minutes will cause the line to release (in about two minutes)regardless of what the user does, and doesn't affect any other hook switch functions.

Almost definetly the user making the page hanging up & immediatly picking up to make another call.

Verry little that can be done to prevent it (apart form user training) the call limit already suggested is the best way to limit the damage.
