Password history is stored in DBM format in the following two files:

/etc/security/pwdhist.pag
/etc/security/pwdhist.dir

Each entry is keyed by username and consists of a single string.

The string consists of concatenated 17 character items, with the first four bytes being a packed representation of the time of password change, and the remainder being the encrypted password as it would appear in /etc/security/passwd.

The items in the string go from most recent to oldest as you move from the beginning of the string to the end.

Most of the data will be in files under /etc/security. For your specific question, the password history database is stored in two files: /etc/security/pwdhist.dir and /etc/security/pwdhist.pag

Hope that helps.
