Everyone will love this one. :)

Ok,

I started setting up users and groups on my database.

There are three users:
Admins
Checkout
myaccount

and of course two groups:
Admins
Users

Maybe I did something wrong. :) But as far as I can tell, I'm logging on as my account which is an admin account. However, while I was fiddling with all this I clicked the "Clear Password" button on the "User and Group Accounts" box for my account. Ever since then, on the "Change Logon Password" tab, it has Admin at the top whereas it used to have myaccount there. It will not let me change from an old to a new password for the Admins account either. Also ever since I clicked the "Clear Password button, I haven't been able to change the appearance of forms along with some other things. I am told by the dialog box that I donn't have permission to do this thing. Keep in mind, I am logged in under myaccount, which is an admin account. Interestingly enough, however, all of the buttons on the "Users" tab on the "User and Group Accounts" box are greyed out and it now tells that I also don't have permission to view the permissions and options for the other accounts.

Does anyone have any idea about what may be going on?

Thanks in advance.

If the database no longer asks you to log in, I believe you cleared the password for user Admin. By default, you log in as user Admin. Try reseting the password for user Admin and see what happens.

I don't see how I can reset the password for the user Admin. The only way I get anything remotely close to a password is the "Change Logon Password" tab. But, it doesn't take the passsword for that account. Interestingly enough, I have tried to reset the password for the admin account. However, the old password, which you must have in order to reset the password, for the admin account isn't working. I obtained it from the One-Step Wizard report. I've tried re-entering it many times. All of the other buttons are grayed out. Therefore I can't even add new users.

Who are you logging in as? When you log in do you have to enter a name and password? What user is assigned to group Admins? The user(s) that belong to group Admins as rights to everything.

Thank you for your time on this one.

This is where it gets peculiar. I'm being logging in as myaccount, not the admin account, although, when I go to the Change Logon Password tab under "User and Group Accounts" the only thing there is Admin:. All other indicators point to myaccount. myaccount is the owner of the database. When I run a form with some code in it to give the current user, it gives me myaccunt. Another weird thing is that whenever I do something that requires an administrator to do it (ie run the security wizard), it won't let me do it.

Thanks again :)

Medium, this is due to a conflict on your system in the standard Workgroup ID that is setup for MS Office. I have had this issue as well and was directed to make changes in the Workgroup adminstrator file. The steps are convoluted and somewhat confusing so I will let someone else help out more. I would also like to be able to edit these settings. The file is Wrkgadm.exe...this will allow you to create a new workgroup and then actually remove the admin user from the groups. Allowing you to log in as the admin...

More to follow... let me check with a few folks around here...

hang in there!

Thanks Channah and FancyPrairie,

I failed to add that I am running Access on a full session through Citrix and Windows 2000 server.
