Is there a way to access this folder on ther server? I have shared it and given myself permission, but I still cannot open it. I have an employee that no longer works here and I nee the folder contents. I want to be able to access it at the sever level not on the work station

Thanks

When dealing with shared folders on Windows Server you must remember that there are two types of permissions: Shared Permissions and NTFS permissions.

Also, a Deny permission will always override an Allow permission.

To solve this problem, please ensure that you have permissions to access this folder in both the Share Permissions and the NTFS Permissions.

That may be the problem to I get to NTFS through the server manager?

Here is how you access the permissions.

Share Permissions:
1 - Right click the File / Folder
2 - Select the "Sharing" tab
3 - Set appropriate permissions

NTFS Permissions:
1 - Right click the File / Folder
2 - Select the "Security" tab
3 - Set appropriate permissions
4 - If necessary click the "Advanced" button to access more in depth NTFS permissions.

That was it! I had to go under the advanced tab to change the permissions.

Thanks
