I have a Nortel BCM 400 with a Call Center. Whenever agents in the call center receive calls on a certain taget line, they report that that can't hear the person on the other end. The phone's display Line XXX and this always occurs. What are some steps one can take to troubleshoot this? Thanks.

use the bcm monitor to see what physical line it actually comes in on.
If its PRI then it may be a faulty channel which you can disable.

Try power rebooting the system first to see it it clears the fault.

Replace the line card.

check with your telco to test the lines, they may see the faulty channel.

If the calls are received using analog DID or E&M trunks, try switching it with a good one at the demark to identify whether it's your equipment or a telco problem. A problem with either of these or a PRI channel will affect more than one target line however. Are you sure it is a target line and not a two-way analog line?
