Users' access to SQL server that was moved from Token Ring to Ethernet severely slowed down. They even experience lock at times and have to reboot their workstations.

Server is running SQL 7.0, and NT4 based. It's inserting at 16MBPS on TokenRing environment and runs 100MBPS on switched/VLAN ethernet environment.

Are their SQL/NT server parameters that needs to be modified or finetuned to optimize perfomance when migrating from Token Ring to Ethernet environment?

Thanks in advance. All assistance in this matter are highly appreciated.

what type of switch are u using... what's its capacity, is configurable... what u need to do is hard configure the switch bandwidth to match the users' and the SQL Server's ethernet bandwidth... u will need to do the same on the user's network cards..

if you are using Cat-5 ethernet cable, start slowly, and set the user's network cards, and their ports on the switch to 10Mbps full ... whatever u decide to do eventually, ensure that speed on the port and the machine network card are always the same.. u will fail to send any traffic if, for instance, the switch is configured for 10Mbps full and the user is configured for 10Mbps half, or 100Mbps full ..

good luck..
