When setting up a user on OS X server, I cannot have a period (.) in the short name but this is OK in full name. This is a nightmare as PC access can only seemingly be done using shortname and all our PC domain usernames are 'joe.bloggs' etc. I can log on to the server using ssh, os9, os x and nfs using the full name but not smb. I don't want the server to query the PDC. Any ideas?
