username alias

Hi, I'm new at this and have taken courses in Domino, but no practical experience. I was asked to put together an agent to add an alias to the UserName field consisting of the First Name Init and Full Last Name. A) Can this be done and B) can someone point me in the right direction to do that. I am assuming there is a formula which I can append the alias (firstinitlastname) to the username field. Trimming the first init off and concatenating with the full last name seems pretty straight forward. Any timely help would be much appreciated.

This would be handled via a simple agent as you mentioned. I suggest practicing on a local COPY of the address book first, then when comfortable making the changes to a local REPLICA and replicating with the server when complete. Question - by default, the user's shortname is built from the firstinitial and lastname. Why do you need to change it?

Thanks. We need the alias because we are converting from another system in which the users are used to first init/last name as their userids. We wanna make the transition as easy as possible for them. Can you give me a hint on how to provide 2 user names, is it just a list of usernames separated by comma? Can you give me an example?
