Hi, I have users home drives map to H: \\servername\users\%username% in Active Directory under the profiles tab. The users folder is shared with 'Everyone' having Full control.

All other drives are mapped with the login script.

This works fine for all users except one. Sometimes but not all the time it maps to \\servername\users and leaves off the username on the end. The user does have correct NTFS permissions to access the folder.

Not sure if it is a red herring but the user does sometimes come into the network remotely from home on a differnt machine. This has happened to the user at home and at work, we also use local profiles.

Any ideas on what might cause this? Thanks.

Delete and recreate from AD. Type \\servername\users\%username% exactly as you have it. See it resolves.

Yes, I am using a login script - I am a big fan of your vbs login script FAQ and have used bits of it at my last job - thanks.

This job I am unable to use it (not my call) just using bat file. The login script basically just maps drives NET USE G: \\server\share etc excluding H:\

I know I can do it in the login script instead of AD but it would be nice to have AD do it.

Also just for interest the users home drive used to be mapped to \\servername\username$ I changed it just recently and thats when this issue started.

The thing to realize is that the profiles tab home drive property is a legacy setting left there for NT4 interaction. As far as I am aware it will be removed in Longhorn.

This setting can be unreliable.

Also using BAT files in AD can sometimes be hit or miss. YOu should rename them to CMD files if using in a GPO.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Thanks - handy to know. I suppose the advantage gained from it was that it automatically created the users folder when a new user was created.

Thanks

Yes, that is a convenience that I think is lacking in not using it, however the creation too can be scripted as can the setting of priviledges.

I hope you find this post helpful.
