We support two email domain names for two different company names within our environment. Both are supported by the same Exchange server. I have one user - in the accounting department - who uses both addresses. And this is my dilemma - she needs to be able to send and recieve emails from both addresses. The incoming was easy - I just configured both SMTP addresses for her and set up a rule that diverted any mail coming in addressed to her@2ndcompany.com to a specific folder. The problem is, she needs to be able to send out messages that will be seen at the recipient as either her@1stcompany.com, or her@2ndcompany.com so that if the user just clicks "reply" it will come in addressed appropriately so that it will end up in the correct folder. I know I can set one or the other address as "primary" in AD, and that is the address it will report, but for her benefit, she needs to be able to switch back and forth between them. Can this be done?

im guessing you are running exchange standard

you currently have her set up with the account name as "her@domain1.com"
and in her e-mail address list you have both domain e-mails and domain1 set as primary

i would set her up with two different accounts "her@domain1.com" and "her2@domain1.com"

now for "her" set up just the domain1 e-mail address

and for "her2" set up only the domain2 e-mail address

make sure that the domain2 address is not referanced in the "her" account
and the domain1 is not referanced in the "her2" account

in outlook set up two different profiles one for each account

IMO: this is the easiest way, only draw back both "her" and "her2" will show up in the global address list.....

good luck and let me know how it turns out

Yeah, I thought about doing it that way. Is there a way she can have both emails open at the same time? This particular user can be difficult (I'm sure you know how it is), and if I tell her she has to close out her email then reload it selecting the different profile each time she wants to work with emails, she's going to have a fit.

Have her1 be a delegate with send permissions for her2, and forward all of her2's received mail to her1?

but you will still have to create another account with the domain2, that is the only way to get the send and recieve ability

but yeah you could deligate that authority, i wold recomend setting up another profile on your outlook, set up the other account and set all the deligations for the other user to allow her to send as either, then forward
you will have to go to her outlook and add the from field on all outgoing e-mail and she will have to pick what domain she is sending from....

Yes... sorry for not making that clear, I was basing that on your scenario and offering an alternative to the use of profiles. I agree with Wcharlier on that score--none of my users would stand for having to use multiple profiles for this.

Ok, I went ahead and set up the second account for her, and assigned one of the email addresses to each account. To distinguish between the two, I used her middle initial on the second account. Using the deligates feature was definitely the key to solving my problem. The only slight inconvenience for her is that she has to have the "From" field open and put in her name with the middle initial if she wants to send a message showing as being from the second company, but even she can't complain abotu something as simple as that. The way it had been, the second company was on a separate server, and she had to use OWA to reach it, so this is even easier. I appreciate all the advice, guys.

FYI- not sure but just incase, if you had her email set up as

flast@domain1.com
and
flast@domain2.com

when you had them both on the same list,

even though the new account is not mlast, you can still set up the flast@domain2.com up in her e-mail address list and make it the primary

just because the account name is mlast, doesnt mean the emial address cant be flast@domain2.com, just incase it was an already wide spread address, so you dont have to "retrain" anybody and wont have to worry about her telling any contacts about the new address
