I have a my 12 physical ports all with extensions and users assigned. I have 1 IP phone built that has an extension and a user assigned. I have 3 additional users with no extension assigned.

I would like to add an employee who will not have a set, but rather all calls will go to his cell phone.

I have another employee who does not have a set, but will use manager to forward his set to wherever he is that day (again off net).

I have one softphone I would like to add.

VPN into the network is working via cisco products.

I am a little lost on when to add users and when to add extensions. Can someone offer some basic insite on the subject or specifics to my example.

Thanks

Usere relate to the logical useres on your system, wheather or not they have a physical phone, these are wahta you would normaly add.

extentions are the physical ports on they system ( IP phones are alocated a virtual port when created) they are usualy asociated with a user although this can be left blank if a pure hotdesk is req.

In all of your examples above a USER should be created, for the softphone answere yes to the prompt to create an IP phone in all other cases answre no.

It is posible for a virtual usere to log-on to any phone if required.
