user unknown 8.12.3

I'm running sendmail 8.12.3 on aix 4.3.3. The server has some local users which pop in and relays to a smart host if the user does not exist locally. My problem is that I just added a few users locally, and when I try and send a message to them, I receive:

Permanent Error 550 5.1.1 ...User Unknown

I even tried adding changing the sendmail.cf to deliver the new users locally. The other local users still work and are not in any special configuration files (aliases, virtuser, etc.) Any ideas?

Well, I found the answer. One of those things that you just don't really think about. Turns out, the usernames requested had a capital letter in them. When sendmail would look for the user, he would see all characters as lower-case. I recreated the users on the server with all lower-case characters, and he found them. All I can say is DUH!
