Hello,

Had a problem going on for a while where a user received a mail for another user in Exchange 2000. Both users received the email, however there was no forwarder set. The site uses Net IQ Mail Marshall SMTP, but ruled this out as a source of problem, as it occured when email was sent from inside, so it would not have hit the SMTP gateway.

I added a forward in Delivery options to do what was happening anyway. A test email was forwarded just once. I then took the forward off, and the email was still forwarded just once.

I rebooted the server that night, and the problem has gone away, but I am being asked WHY it happened, as confidential infomation could be passed around if this happens again. Just to be clear, this forwarding has NEVER been setup for this user before the test I mentioned above, and this was after the event.

If anybody has seen this happening, or knows of a good way of tracing why, please let me know. I still have the email in the user's mailbox, and have no idea how it got delivered there.

Many Thanks,

Tim Herman

When you tested, did you give it time to propogate the change through AD?
