Hi all
I want to put expire time to my whole users to change their password by their own by the date which i put (For example every 1st of the month). How can i set the users like this?
while adding a user using 'useradd' on the command mode ..u could use the -e option in number of days by which the password would expire and i think there is a -w option to warn the user of its expiry 'n' days ahead as specified in the -w option.
or u could search for a /etc/shadow equivalent in Sun Solaris / HP-UX in Digital Unix...wherein u can explicitly indicate expiry time and the warning days.
I couldn't change to my current settings Maybe i need to change my security type to change settings,do you know how can i find out what is my current security type and how to change it ?
Password aging is only available with the "Enhanced Security" package. There is a Compaq manual that deals exclusively with Security and details the process of implementing it. It is not simple, though.
Hi Ranjon
Thank you so much for reply ,
My next step is before changing security type to think about what is gonna change if i switch to Enchance Sec. type.
If i change it on my production system would happened something else to my clients who connect daily.?
Why expire all passwords on the same day ?
If you have lots of users, you will probably be inundated with service desk calls from disgruntled users and this will have a bad effect on your service stats - if you have them. Better to stagger the expiry dates.
