hi,

so, as my old NT domain crashed and I freshly re-installed nt4sp6, i got following question:

I know how to join a domain, no doubt, just, I'm realy fed up of hearing users: "hey, where are my icons? Where is my config?"...I'm sure you can feel the headache it occurs after a while :D So, is there an EASY way, to join this new made domain (still same domain name on server!) with workstations, keeping their 'old' (before crash) userprofile???

Cause if there is no way to do it, I'm afraid I'll have to login for each user, logout, and copy the old profile to the new created one (as admin)... really a pain... :s

thnx in advance

The likelihood is that the original profile is called
%username% and the new one %username%.000

What you could try doing is creating/adding a line to a logon script which has (literally):

xcopy c:\winnt\profiles\%username% c:\winnt\profiles\%username%.000 /y

This is assuming you are using NT4 workstations. Also, I would check this is the case before continuing and then test.

The only problem you might find is permissions to the profile.
