User Profile folders have ".domainName" attached to them

In the Documents and Settings folder, say I have the users JasonC, DavidK and the domain is OCEAN.
I think their passwords expired, and they changed it.
Now when they log onto the domain there exists 2 folders JasonC and JasonC.OCEAN.
Windows is loading the JasonC.OCEAN profile instead of JasonC.

The old profile folder contains everything. Why did windows create a new profile folder rather than refer to the existing one? And is it possible to make windows load the old profile folder?

I would copy the old:

This would make the user consistent with every other use on the Domain in their use of Shell Folders.
