user preferences don't work

For years I got receipts by merely checking the 'receipt' box in the User Preference page. A few months ago this stopped and now I have to check each message. I need the receipt, but after years of not checking, I haven't gotten into the habit. What the heck happened to CCMail??? I'm running with 8.50.01.3.

I made a signature using the STATIONARY function and not checking the 'return receipt' caused the STATIONARY to override the User Preferences. I amended the STATIONARY and - - - no more problem
