Hi all,

I have seen similar problems with group policies on the forums but as this i feel is more to do with user policies than group policies, here goes...

If one of my users logs onto a workstation that he/she has never logged onto before the user policy doesnt take full effect. Security settings and blocked areas of the PC become available to that user, if they log
out and back in then the user policy takes effect straight away.

I have the user policy set to DLU and it looks like until the local user account is created the policy wont take effect as there is nowhere to store the policy. Need a fix for this as it causes an obvious security issue. I need to carry on using DLU if at all possible.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

this is not a Netware/Zen Problem, that is how Microsoft GPO´s are working.

In the first logon, you set the registry keys, but some of them will start working on the next reboot !

OK, is there anyway to delay the policy being applied until the local user account is created ?

there is not need to do a delay, the policy does not get applied until the user account is created anyway.

You can setup policy deployment on a schedule, won't get you what you want though.

To get the securoty you want and allow users to roam is to assign policies to the workstation it's self. Make the policy persistant and it will apply to every user that logs into the PC.

Including your administrator user. So be carefull what machines you apply a locked down policy to. We were having this problem with DLU settings in zenworks as well. We actually went away from DLU. We create a user account on the box called "default" with no password that is a computer administrator and all of our staff / students login using their netware credentials and then click ok to the "default" windows user and it goes right through the login. We then re-direct the My Documents, My Pictures, Favorites, History, My Music, and Desktop folders to their H:\ drive (which is a drive that is specified as "home" where every user can store their own stuff) so that their stuff follows them around.
