I have set up a new Terminal Server which will also be running Citrix Presentation Server 4.

When I try to log in with a normal user, I get an error message that says "the desktop you are trying open is currently available only to administrators"

I also get a message telling that in order to log into the terminal server, the user needs to be part of the Remote Desktop User group.

I created a security group in Active Directory and this group has been added to the Remote Desktop Users group on the Terminal Server and the test user is a part of the security group.

Any ideas why I am unable to login with this account?

Thanks,
Scott

It sounds like you are running in Remote Administration mode, which is enabled by default. Did you install terminal services through add/remove programs -add/remove Windows components? Do you have the licensing server, etc. set up?

can you explain the liscensing server to me? i am using a evaluation copy good for 6 months and i am having a tough time getting into terminal services and running a program. do you need to tell terminal services that you have a liscence somewhere? is that you u mean by it? thanks....

I finally resolved my issue which turned out to be with Citrix. Below is the link I found to resolve the issue.

tkdude,

By default, you are allowed to use Terminal Services for 120 days without having any licenses. After that, you need to have the TS CAL's installed on a Terminal License Server.
