I have installed SS8 on my PC PII 266, and i have assigned the password and everything but after finished the installation process it couldn't recognize my username and password to get me in. Can anyone help please?

Sorry - don't know much about Intel-based Solaris, but I assume you assigned the root password on installation? If that's correct, are you sure you're typing the password in the correct case?

Otherwise, can you boot cdrom -s from the installation CD and mount the root partition on the cd to change the root password that way (edit /etc/shadow to delete the encrypted password). Then unmount the root partition and reboot normally and you should be able to login without a password. Always reinstate the password after following this procedure.

As I say, this is the way you would do it in unix, whether the same applies in Intel, others may be able to advise. Hope this helps.

Sorry - just to clarify. To mount the root partition on the cd, do the following:

mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a
cd /a/etc

Then you can vi the shadow file to remove the errant password. Good luck.

Since you installed the system recently, then
you're better off running /usr/sbin/sys-unconfig which will reset all your network settings and the root passwd. aks for the new values when reboot the system, your network setting {Ip address, Hostname,Nis domain name LDAP, Root passwd and much more.

are you trying to log in as root?

that is the only password it asks you for when installing the system ...

you have to add other users after you finish installing and log in as root.
