User Management?

I'm not sure if this should be in the mySQL forum or not, but I'll try here first...

I'm looking for some scripts to manage users. I know that sounds rather vague, but I want a script that is a login system. So the first page would be a login screen, with a link on it to register if you are a new user (and for forgotten password using email address).
Once the user has completed the registration form, the user is emailed a verification link. At this point the user is not an active user.
When the user receives the email, they click on the link to verify their request.
When the verification process is complete, the user is email again with confirmation and the sysadmin receives an email notifying them of the new user.
Once logged in, the user has got access to various pages, etc.
And a logoff link.

I know there must be off the shelf stuff for this, but any ideas?

oddly enough d0nny, i started a project to define something definitive for this exact process about a month ago. I wrote about it on my blog (rathercurious.net) seeking feedback on its contents. It's now 95% done and I intend to complete it during a four hour train journey tomorrow. i will publish it on the blog when done.

no it hasn't yet. it's still mainly done! just working on the UI again (i'm terrible at design) and it's taken a back burner due to us being mid-week and me having a job (of sorts)!
