how can i configure qmail with vpopmail to use email address as user@mydomain.com rather than user@mail.mydomain.com for outgoing as well as incoming mails.

set your DNS to make your MX record mail.mydomain.tld

you define your virtual host domain as mydomain.tld through vpopmail

this is common, and you NEVER would tell someone to reach you at "user@mail.mydomain.tld". Instead just use "user@mydomain.tld".

If, however, you already have users sending to the "mail" host, then create another DNS MX for "mail.mydomain.tld", point it to the "mydomain.tld" MX entry. Then use vpopmail's "valiasdomain" (or something like that) which creates an entire domain that aliases email back to the corresponding user at the desired domain.

I created one aliasdomain by using /home/vpopmail/bin/vaddaliasdomain mail.domain.com domain.com.
Now i am able to deliver mails to user@domain.com and it is going to user@mail.domain.com. is this the correct configuration?

If you read the man page or even just run ./vaddaliasdomain you'll see that the first parameter is for the realdomain and the second parameter is for the new alias domain.

You have probably reversed the intended outcome. You should fix this if you want the correct behavior.

I am having same problem but can't figure it out. I have can send mail to 'postmaster@mail.mydomain.com' but not 'postmaster@mydomain.com'. I am using VqAdmin and if I list the domains I have the following:

mydomain.com
mail.mydomain.com Aliased to mydomain.com

If I send mail to postmaster@mydomain.com I get a message returned:
Code:
 postmaster@randyriegel.com
SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:<postmaster@mydomain.com>:
    host mail4.zoneedit.com [66.223.51.63]: 554 <postmaster@mydomain.com>:
    Relay access denied

If I send mail to 'postmaster@mail.mydomain.com' I can receive it via POP3 if I use the username 'postmaster@mydomain.com' without the mail extention.

I installed Qmail via

I'll take a look at those files tomorrow when I got time.

No, I'm not using 'mydomain.com' in my actual files, I'm using my actual domain name.
