I have a user who's documents are mapped to a share on the Windows 2003 SBS. He says that he periodically loses connection to the server and the documents. Then, when he finally get's back in, not all the documents are there, inlcuding ones that were previously saved and seen before the interruption. Keep in mind, I have not seen this; just been told it is happening.

What:

a. would make a connection disappear on the network?
b. why would the documents be missing?

Is this a mapped drive??

I've got a client on says something very similair happens, they haven't mentioned anything about documents missing but the drive mapping to the share disappears.
I'm still working on it, at the moment I have a scheduled task setup to do a dos dir on the drive once an hour, this keeps the connection awake.

You could try this;

I've tried various flavours of mapping the drive,
I've used a vbscript in the login script
a batch job doing a net use with and without the /persistent on it.
