Hi,

We have a really strange one. One of our users running Windows XP on his notebook, connecting to a windows 2000 server has lost all folders on a mapped network drive other than those he accessed earlier today.

This is the second time in a week this has happened. Rebooting the notebook ressolves the issue with all network folders being available.

Any ideas?.

Cheers in advance.

Anything strange showing up in the Event Viewer?

Any unknown scripts, Schedule Tasks, or Registry Tweaks running on the machine?

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

HOW TO: Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP

Try "Safe Mode with Networking" (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?). Try Normal Mode but with a different user.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

I managed to get the users notebook and can see that the problem is with offline files.

If I release the IP connection then only files that have been opened are visable - when I renew the IP the remainder do not re-appear "as they do on my PC".

Both my PC and the users notebook have offline file configured the same.

Any ideas?.
