Hi, I would like to know if there is any software that I could download for Win98 that allowed the computer to have mutliple logons. I don't want to use passwords feature on windows as I will lose my work if I was to decide that I no longer wanted to use passwords and it's to inconvenient. What I would like is when you start the computer for it to show a screen where it would normally give you password part but with other software that allowed you to have many users and in each users logon there is restrictions to the Control Panel, the programs that appear on the start menu and other security features. I would make it so the children have only IE, Office and games on their settings and no access to C: or settings and for me to have access to most of the things and this way it means that all my files are safe from them from destroying them.

Do a keyword search on:

poledit

policy editor to get a sense of the kind of access restrictions that can be implemented on individual profiles.

Ain't gonna happen on a Win98 machine unless you use 3rd party software.

You would have to have passwords and logins. How would your programs be protected?

Poledit will do little.

Here's one possibility:
Access Sentinel 3.0

Purpose

Add a File Security tab!

Sentinel makes file security as easy as opening File
Properties! After installing, the File Properties dialog
will contain a new Security tab where you can hide, block,
or log file and folder access. Also allows you to watch in
real-time all activity on your harddrive. Tightly
integrated with the Windows Shell and kernelmode file
operating system components to provide maximum flexability
while existing within the normal Windows user interface.
