In AD, you have a cn which usually is the user's username(it appears to actually be the object name). There is also the userPrincipalName which is the email-like name. In AS there is an account tab in which there is a field: user logon name. Does anyone know what the programmatic name for this field is? i.e like: cn

I thought I posted up a reply to this previously, but maybe I didn't hit the submit button. The User Logon Name corresponds exactly to the userPrincipalName attribute! If you just want the part which corresponds to just the first part of the userPrincipalName (before the @), it isn't a separate attribute.

But if you want the full DistinguishedName of the user object, it is in this format:

CN=<user>,CN=Users,DC=domain,DC=com

I suggest using ADSIEDIT to get a good view of all the possible attributes. Modify the user properties in the GUI and check adsiedit to see which attributes have changed.

Thanks. Yeah, I need the user logon name on the network, which is the part before the @ symbol.
