User logged on that is not part of Active Directory

Hello All,
I checked my anti-virus server this morning (Symantec)and in its status display for one of the protected machines it listed an unknown user logged on. So I went to that PC and shut it off. What do I have to do (where to read the article covering how to etc) to make sure that this can't happen again?
