Hi,

Say my server has hostname localhostname.com, but email for this domain is sent elsewhere. Until yesterday, if I was logged into the box, and used the mail program to email auser@localhostname.com, the mail left the box went to the mx for the domainname, and then to the right users mailbox elsewhere.

Then I installed the sendmail-cf rpm (I'm on redhat, sendmail 8.12.5) and rebuilt the sendmail.cf. I also changed a setting, but I've changed that back and rebuilt.

Now if I mail auser@localhostname.com it tried to send the mail to the local user auser (who doesn't generally exist). I'm not sure what to do to get the old behaviour back? I still want to be able to log on to the box and mail "alocaluser" and get it delivered locally, but i want "auser@localdomain.com" to leave the box.

I can't really see how I've changed this - as far as I can see my sendmail.mc is back as it was, the only difference is that I have regenerated the cf after installing the rpm. Any tips on what to look for greatfully appreciated!

You say you installed sendmail-cf rpm ??? Any changes to the working sendmail.cf file will directly affect how sendmail works. Post your sendmail.mc file.

I would like to reopen this thread.

I am experiencing the problem described above and have not changed any configuration files.

I've got an application program that sends emails to: info@example.com

info is not a defined local user, but the email will not leave my server because it has the domain - example.com

How do I configure sendmail to allow all emails to be delivered out even if they use a local domain name?
