We have a web application that requires the use of a specific user listed in USERS in the tempdb database of a SQL 2000 server.

This account will occasionally disappear. I appreciate that the Tempdb is a temporary database, however the account will disappear even thought the server has not been rebooted or failed over.

Is there any processes that can cause the account to disappear, The SA and guest account in tmpdb are not affected.

I have checked the SQL logs and Event logs and there is nothing there to suggest why this is happening

Even though SQL Server isn't being rebooted, have the SQL Server services been stopped and restarted? If so, that will rebuild the TEMPDB.

Another question....why does this user have to be in the TEMPDB? What's the purpose? Can't you create a database that will do the same thing?

-SQLBill

I checked the services when the problem occured and they have not stopped. Environment is a SQL cluster if that helps?

In reference to your second question, I to have asked that question to our developers and they are coming up with a solution meanwhile we still have the issue of the dissappearing account.

May change the application to use the sa account untill this problem is resolved

Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated

oooooo, use SA account and give the user privileges to do ANYTHING they want on ANY of your databases. Not really good.

password and account are only used internally with in global.asa on a very secure web server in order for the application to access data.

Account is not used by users to login access via a web application to get to data.

But I take your point regarding security
