Hello all,
One of our clients is blacklisted because you cannot send an email to postmaster@[w.x.y.z], where w.x.y.x is the public IP address thier MX record points to.

I found Q193316 which looked helpful, until I realized it was just for Exchange 5.5. If anyone could be of assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

To configure Exchange 2000 to accept (and deliver!) postmaster@[x.x.x.x] or
@x.x.x.x

Short version:
1. Create a "RECIPIENT POLICY" to accept @[x.x.x.x].
2. Create a "postmaster@[x.x.x.x] alias on an existing account.

Step by step version:
1. Configure a Exchange System Manager Recipient Policy.
-Under Recipients-> Recipients Policy -> New
-select "E-mail Addresses"
-add simple display name like "IP literal with brackets"
-Don't add a filter! Skip to the second tab "E-mail addresses
(Policy)"
-choose 'NEW...'
-choose 'SMTP Address'
-enter @[x.x.x.x] //those x's should be numbers. your number.
-select your entry //I don't know why, just make sure you check
the box
-Apply changes and save.
FYI - If you get a msg to "Update all records..." answer NO.

2. Add a postmaster@[x.x.x.x] alias to an existing account.
-in Active Directory User Mgr
-select a user -> properties -> E-mail addresses
-choose NEW...
-choose CUSTOM ADDRESS // Don't choose smtp! Bill G will not
allow a [ in the address
-enter Postmaster@[x.x.x.x]
-enter type as 'smtp' // Smile, you just fooled Bill.
// Now make a sad face because we still paid
him for this crap -apply and save

3. Do it all again without brackets for postmaster@x.x.x.x

Unfortunately my company got spam relay recently and cause our email to be placed on some of block-lists. I was in the process of trying to remove from these lists. However, one of block-list is asking to send email to user@[my_ip] type. I have configured my exchange 5.5 the way it describes in previous two posts. However, I still not able to received the email from outside sent as user@[my_ip].

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I do have the same problem. I have done the settings as listed, but i cant send to username@[ip-address]. the public IP i use for the Exchange server is natted to a private IP inside my network.
Please advice

All the said Configs have been done. But still not able to receive mail on postmaster@[ipaddress.com]. sender receives a ndr. is there sometning to configure on the ISP/DNS

Make sure that you setup a custom SMTP on a existing account: postmaster@[x.x.x.x] and another custom SMTP for the same account: postmaster@x.x.x.x It should not matter if your Exchange server is natted to a private number. Think about it, all of your address are natted. Can you recieve mail from outside to any of your other user accounts, including the on you are using to add this custom SMTP to?

Yes i have setup postmaster@domain.com and its working properly. all other accounts work properly

I never get this user@[ip address] to work. If you are having same problem like my; email ip address was on block-list. You can write a email to whoever block you and told them you are blocking relay but can not get user@[ip address] to work. This is how I did to fix the root cause of this problem. Hope this work for you.
