We have a NW6 server and a couple of NW5.1 in our network. Our clients (Win2K with the Netware client) are setup with a preferred tree and context but no preferred server. The problem is that we have an app. that checks the Netware user's name for security; when the user authenticates with the NW5.1 server th userid is .username.context, in NW6 is just username.

Beside adding a preferred server to our clients do you know why the difference between versions? Is there anything else I can do?

BTW, I checked the connections in MONITOR and the NW5.1 server shows them fully qualified and NW6 does not.

The context for users should be the same, unless your referring to two defferent NDS trees. I don't understand what you are referring to exactly. Your app that checks NetWare users name for security, Should find it the same way in eather NetWare 5.1 or 6.
Do you have a SET BINDERY=<context> in your autoexec.ncf?
I would make sure in NDS that the user is logging into the server which the application is running. Leave the client default server empty. Have you tried using SLP?
