All datafiles are ultimately owned by SYS who &quot;owns&quot; the database and the data dictionary. For this reason datafiles and tablespaces (which are composed of datafiles) never show &quot;ownership&quot; anywhere in the data dictionary. Either SYS or SYSTEM is appropriate for adding datafiles. I generally add tablespaces and datafiles as SYS.
