I have a user who currently has a number of Word files stored on his desktop. He insists that they must be there for convenience. Occasionally when he opens one of these files, Word sees it as read-only and subsequently won't save changes. I've monitored the situation with SMS.
It seems that this situation is only transient, as the file is usually modifiable. The user is a local administrator.
I wondered if the reason is that the OS is updating the desktop regularly and the user just gets 'caught' whilst the OS is accessing the file.
I'm trying to persuade the user to use shortcuts instead of the actual 'doc' files.
Any thoughts, you gurus?
Geoff
