Hi there,

I'm having the wierdest problem with a sub site in Sharepoint 2003. It comes in multiple steps, so bear with me:

Step 1:
I defined a couple of users (in 'Active Directory Users and Computers' on my server) but their names were wrong. So I changed them, again on the server.

Problem from step 1:
The logon details of the users changed fine, but their display names didn't at all.

So - Step 2:
I went back into Active Directory and found that their display names were indeed still the old spelling. I renamed the records.

Problem from step 2:
Still the display in Sharepoint was coming up with their old spelling.

SO - Step 3:
I decided to just delete the two entries in Active Directory and start again. I did that and also deleted the two users listed in Sharepoint. I then redefined the users in Active Directory with all the correct information.

Problem from Step 3:
Lo and behold in Sharepoint, when I came to add the brand spanking new users, it displays the OLD display name on the confirmation screen (where you can send the notification email) and if I click OK it says that it can't create the user because it already exists - even though I've deleted the record both from Sharepoint and from Active Direcory.

oh dear! It all seems to be going a little haywire with this site. I went into the Central Administration Panel and tried to do the same from there too, but to no avail. If I added a user it still came up witht eh incorrect display name.

PLEASE HELP!!! This is driving me mad. Should have been a very small issue to change, but has exploded in my face.

Thanks all!

OK, if anyone's intersted a friend of mine found the issue. One the top level site admin, under site collection administration there's a list called Site Collection User Information. This is where the old user names were still stored! Had just to delete them out of that list and replace the new users in my original list - all fixed!

cheers!
