I have a client running a BCM50 2.0 that has one user stating that he's getting an electrical shock on his hand from the receiver of his T7316E.

The client swapped phones with a spare after the first reported incident. The user then claimed it happened again and the client called me. The user states that it didn't really hurt but its annoying.

These phones use less than 20 VDC from the BCM. I can't imagine anything capable of producing an electric shock of any significance on these phones without blowing the phone. I've considered the possibility of induced voltage on the cable serving the workstation but haven't come up with anything conclusive.

Any thoughts on this???

I'd test it myself before I believed it. Considering the phone is plastic, the cord is plastic, and at no time is a user required to touch metal on the phone, it would be hard to believe.

I went through exactly the same issue with a 400. Swapped phones, ports, x wire, provided a static mat. Turned out when we swapped the user to another cube, with a different AC outlet the problem went away. P.S. The electricians said there was nothing wrong with the outlet. I don't know about the internal cube wiring.

Is the office a very dry location? The user may be building up static electricity around the office and it just happens that it is being discharged through their phone.

I know my office is very dry and I remember once I got a huge shock when unplugging an M-series phone from the outlet on my BCM50 because of the static electricity. Usually when I walk around the office I discharge the static on my computer case and everything is good.

It doesn't just affect me, but most of the other employees in the office (the static.... not the phone issue), so fortuantely we're getting humidifers installed.

Thanks for all the input. Frankly, I think it's static electricity, particularly since the weather is colder and dryer recently.

Thanks again...
