Good day

I do not know if this is the right forum but all the info I have found has been on the Apache web site so here goes.

I created a dbm file called users using dbmmanage (well it created the file but it is unknown)I place tesing users in the dbm and set the .htaccess files to read the users dbm with AuthDBMUserFile /users

But I get nothing.

the trouble is i don't know where to start to get it to work:

Is it the file users that was generated by dbmmanager (my Suse Linux doesn't know what it is (unknown)

Am I missing some kind of a compilier or what

I have been going by the instructions from
thanks for the help if it is possible

have you verified that your apache is configured to read and allow such settings in .htaccess files. IIRC, the default httpd.conf disables .htaccess options with AllowOverride None. You might try putting something totally bogus in your .htaccess file, and reloading the page. If apache is reading and seeing your .htaccess file, it will cause a "500 server error". If you get no such error, apache is most likely not even seeing or reading the .htaccess file in the first place. once you are sure it's reading the file, then we can start troubleshooting the AuthDBMUserFile directive.
