I have an environment that consists of over 75 lpars and standalone servers. I have over 2100 users to manage across the entire enterprise. I need to keep UIDs and GIDs syncd to prevent duplicate UID and GIDs. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to accomplish this. Also, passwords are required to be unique on each server/lpar... any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Best way in your case is to use a script when creating a user or a group instead of regular smit users or smit groups!!

You have first to set ssh or rsh(though not secure as ssh) between all the machines and then use the ssh inside your scripts to go and look into /etc/passwd & /etc/group for names that matches your new user or group name! if found stop the process with an error or so!!! otherwise, create the user. In this way you will maintain the users and groups unique!

Other way is to use Kerbrose and LDAP as in Windows Active directory but with Samba installed on AIX server.

Thanks for the input everyone. There are enough ideas here I should be able to decide on a strategy. Thanks Again,
