Hi all. I just picked up a 2500 series router. I am trying to reconfigure it for a lab, but before I get an User prompt, the router prints out a line "User Access Verification" and gives a password prompt. I tried resetting the enable secret password, but to no avail, this must be AAA or TACACS which I am not familiar with. Any suggestions to get rid of this security prompt? Thanks!

That's normal. If it's using TACACS or RADIUS, you'll get a prompt like this:

Username:

Otherwise you'll get a prompt like this:

Password:

This is the line console password, and can be changed in the router by entering the following commands:

config t
line con 0
password *******
login

Changing the enable password isn't going to help you get in on the console. That only comes into play when you type:

enable

to get into enable mode once you're logged in.

if its asking you for a password go into password recovery mode and type

no aaa new-model

youll then need to make sure you have login and a password enabled on the vtys to login to the rotuer remotely.

sorry.. for the above if its asking for a USERNAME and PASSWORD then...
