We've just ordered a copy of the Sybex guide for Project+, so for the next while I'll have my head in it and will try for the certificate.

But, honestly now everyone, please let me know how much value the certification has in your opinion.

I'm not looking at it from a career perspective, but rather as a sort of selling point for my company. We're planning on being able to say, when we're proposing some system/s to a would-be customer that "we'll manage this project according to the famous Project+ so you can have a nice warm feeling about that"

Do you think that kind of argument will hold any sway with a client? All other things being equal between 2 or more vendors (product, expertise, backup etc) do you think being able to say that would give us an edge? Jim Brown,

"We manage projects according to standard methodologies..."

"XXX percent of our project managers are certified..."

"This attention to standard procedures can save you as much as YYY percent of implementation costs..."

Then back it up with something from Gartner or GIGA or META that says that project managers should follow standard practices...

Good luck!! JTB

Good idea JTB, to say that some expert body says methodology is good. I'm also planning to follow ISO9000-3 which is about how to implement ISO9001 in a software context. Jim Brown,

Good luck on that!! It's a lot of paperwork; but it really can throw it all in your direction...

Success stories like McDonald's, Denny's, and other restaurants relied on travelers who wanted to know they could expect reliable (if not always spectacular) food.

IT is becoming a commodity and our customers want to know what to expect, too... ISO 900x is a good start... along with Six Sigma, ITIL, and MOF...

Pick whatever the client wants (research, eh?) and show how your vendor-independent certs show a deeper understanding of why methodologies are important and the flexibility to meet business requirements with the _appropriate_ methodology...
