I have an older computer that I loaned out to a friend and the mother board gave out. I didn't back up the hard drive before I gave it to them, it is possible to put this hard drive with an os installed and pull off the info I would like to retrieve?????
Or is it a lost cause.

Yes you should be able to do it , when the HDD starts up you will see a bunch of Found New Hardware installs because windows will yp date to the new PC , But Be warned some of the drivers will have to be loaded seperately [sound&video-modem] I have switched hard drives from PC to PC a couple of times with no searious effects

Hi mobileman
Assuming the pc that you will use has an existing HDD and its BIOS boot from it first, then you just need to do the following:
1- add old HDD to pc with correct jumper setting.
2- in BIOS, detect the old HDD and make sure the OS is loaded from the existing HDD.
3- when in normal OS mode, there will be a new HDD added to your system.

The above method does not require any new driver installation. It is as simple as 1 2 3.
Good luck
