Hi all,

I have a few thousands contacts in AD that display first name first. I recently used ADMODIFY tool to switch from first name first to last name first. Most of the contacts got switched correctly, however, a numbers of them still display first name first. I noticed a comma after the last name for the ones that got switched and no comma for the one that still show first name first.

Any idea what is wrong or what I need to do to switch all of them to last name first?

Thanks for all your help!

Regards,
Henry

Th comma is a delimiter that is inserted when contructing the display name. I bet the ones without the comma were manually created, and this is why admodify is having an issue. How many of them are there?

Hi there,

At least a few hudreds of them. What do you mean the ones without comma were manually created? admodify is difinitly having this issue switching all of them. Some of these contacts existed in AD before I took over this position...I'm not sure how they were entered.

Thanks for all your help!

Henry

When a new user is created in Active Directory, the Full name field is always generated in FirstName LastName format. In turn, this field sets the Display Name field on creation, therefore, you end up with a FirstName LastName formatted global address list.

In your case, I think some of the fullname fields were manually populated.

You could try a script to overwrite the field. Here's one:
