hi,
I have several excel spreadsheets that reside on a restricted access drive (for one department only). Some of these files need to be accessed (read-only) by people from other departments. I tried doing Import External data in excel but it wouldn't refresh if they don't have access to the original file. Someone told me xcopy will work. I've been doing some reading and was wondering if anyone can help me use xcopy in excel? i just want the user to be able to open up the file and refresh the data (even when they don't have access to the original file in another drive).

Thank you in advance,
jen

Ask your sysadmin to allow reading on those files.

Hope This Helps, PH.

Thank you. I guess that's the only way to make this work and that is exactly what I'm going to do.
Thank you very much!
