I've pretty much gone as far as I can go with the default FTPD daemon in AIX 5.2L using the ftpusers and ftpaccess.ctrl files. Using either WU-FTP or ProFTP is it possible to do the following:

1) Lock users in a specific directory based on username, group, or all users?

2) Automatically apply default owner:group permissions to any files uploaded. (i.e. group A's files are owned by this user:group and group B's uploads are owned by this user:group)?

...this server is for "real users" only NO anonymous at all. I want users with valid username/password to only be able to uplaod into a specific directory and have the file be owned by a specific user:group?

hi!
first question:
you can get the wu-ftp freeware in the bull site( and install it for installp.

you should edit following line through going into the "/etc/inetd.conf" file and then run "refresh -s inetd" command:

ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/local/bin/ftpd ftpd -a

Next step is to add "guestuser username" line in /etc/ftpacess for locking user in a specific directory
but it's important to make guestuser for smitty tool.

second question:

you should setup to umask in the inetd.conf file.
example:
ftp stream tcp6 nowait root /usr/sbin/ftpd ftpd -u 066 -d
