We've got two call managers, both running CUCM 6.1. They can ping our Windows domain controllers and there's no firewall between them.

Not sure if this is possible or not, but I'm trying to find a way that I can make our publisher server sync with one of our windows 2003 domain controllers to keep it's time the same. For some reason our publisher's time seems to be quicker as it jumps ahead a few seconds every day.

Has anyone done this?

At the moment, if I go into our publisher and set it to use the IP of one of our domain controllers as the NTP source, it just says "NTP source is not accessible" so it doesn't work.. I'm guessing I have to turn something on the domain controller, but from what I can see, the domain controller is already listening/advertising on the ports that NTP requires. So, I'm confused..... I'm not seeing any errors besides the "NTP source is not accessible"

Can anyone lend me some advice here..

The Windows Time Service is SNTP, not the 'full' NTP so it might not work. What are you sync'ing your Windows server off? If you have any Cisco routers or switches in the network sync one of these off a real NTP clock (external or GPS/Radio clock) and then sync other devices off this, including your CCM6 servers.

Ideally you should have a hierarchal NTP model, however this does depend on the size and layout of your network.

At the moment, our windows servers do not use an external time source. All the members of the domain just sync off our FSMO machine.

I do have a Cisco 1751 router that I think I could make the ntp source. I think I'd just have to open a port on our firewall and what not to get that going.

Then, I'm assuming I'd use Group Policy to force the windows domain to sync with the router and also apply the routers address to the call manager. that sound about right?

You don't need to change the sync'ing for the Domain, just change it on the PDC emulator - all clients will automatically sync to a DC.

Excellent! Thanks for the info... I can't believe I didn't have this set up years ago. It's already working like a champ.
