Hi, my team is new to using TFS and we're checking some remaining Access databases we have for source control. I was curious if TFS could be used as a 'backup' in the sense that we have some DBs that run daily and the data (local tables) builds off the prior day so I would like to have copies checked-in daily as a backup, rather than a development version. I've seen that check-ins can be done via command like so I'm thinking of trying to come up with a script that would run daily to check-in these databases. I'm still testing this out but also wanted to see if anybody has done this before. I didn't see much activity in the TFS forum so figured I'd post here.

Well, if you're thinking about running TFS commands from Access.. if those are run via command line, then yes, you could do it, I believe. I've never had a reason to try, but anything that can be run from a command line could be run from Access VBA.

Here's some references that you can check into on the topic:

And you can find for others by searching for Access VBA Command Line

thanks, I was more curious about the TFS side of things...will it mind a file that keeps getting checked-in or is it a 1:1 relationship for check-out/check-in etc. I need to play with it some.

Yeah, sadly, I cannot speak for the TFS side of things. I'd be looking for any specific support site for that product if you need product-specific questions. I don't think the audience for it will be large enough that a site like tek-tips or any other "all in one" tech forum would likely have many folks who would offer much help there. Of course, as soon as I say that, you'll get an answer on the other forum. [spineyes]
