Hi,

I'm using Crystal Reports to design reports for an ACT! 6.0 database. ACT has field size limits of 254 characters so I'm planning on using Word 2002 Docs for some long fields that I have and linking the files to the ACT records. When I run the report in Crystal I have a parameter set up to select the record by contact number. I was hoping that someone might know a way to use that parameter value to also open a Word document based on the parameter value and insert it into my report as an OLE Object. I haven't come across anything that uses a file reference in a formula field especially based on a parameter value.

Can anyone at least let me know if this is possible?

Thank You!!

I don't think so, not directly from within CR.

Perhaps if you placed a field in the database which contained either the file location or http: location of the word document in the field, you could use:

Right click the field->Format Field->Hyperlink

Then select A File or Current Field Location respectively.

There is always a way to do something...

You can write a UFL in VB and pass the documentname to the UFL as an argument and then to open the doc and display some of it.

In CR8.5 and earlier you are restricted to 254 chars. In CR9 you can have up to 64K.
